YUI Graded Browser Support
25 June, 2010
This page has been around for a good while. I’m flagging it up now because I’m trying to build up a sort of toolkit and primer for colleagues managing websites; the rather unsophisticated ‘every user should have exactly the same experience on our website’ is – sadly and surprisingly – still a common attitude.
This explanation of Graded Browser Support and ‘progressive enhancement’ from Yahoo! is well put and, coming from Yahoo!, adds credibility to our arguments for it.

Drives me crazy that 25% of the Woodbrooke website doesn’t work on Chrome, you just get a blank space so you don’t realise something is missing.
I have to keep remembering to double check it with I.E.
The best solution would be to make it work, second best for them to stick a sign up saying “I am yearning for the old days so I only work properly on I.E”?????

Maybe don’t tell them that you’ve got IE and instead bombard them with emails about how their site won’t work in your browser. They might get the message eventually!
